Aquaponics

Janet Moore — 05 December 2008, 16:45

Hi there
Just saw a clip on Skynews Eco report on the urban farm im Milwaukee. Here in Australia we have this guy doing aquaponics which uses the water from the fish going directly to the plants. Aren’t you wasting all those nutrients by filtering them out before they reach the plants? He grows all above soil crops abundantly. I’ve just bought his DVD and it looks amazing

Thanks for getting the Video. Lots more info on my web site if you want to go there. In commercial scale Aquaponics systems the plants are grown in floating sheets of polystyrene. All the solids need to be filtered out for that kind of process. The solids are not wasted. They can be used for composting, or allowed to digest and release minerals that are then reintroduced back into the system.
