Jeff Winkowski

Hi, My name is Jeff Winkowski. I’m an independent contractor, health food, and mental fitness advocate. For the last fourteen years I’ve been involved with the vegetarian food scene, doing everything from vegetarian Kosher catering to serving food at Hare Krishna Festivals and promoting plant-based diets for humans through classes I’ve taught and literature I’ve published.

I’m a whole hearted believer in the vegetarian lifestyle and try to make those around me feel empowered by taking control of their lives, their diets. I think this platform is a wonderful vehicle to raise people’s awareness and thereby lift them up.

I just begun work with the Riverwest Health Initiative and will be teaching Cooking classes at St. Casmir’s Church in Riverwest, advocating food-stuff purchases from The Riverwest CO-OP as well as other local, quality, low -cost food perveyors. I’m looking for anyone with locally grown produce to donate that could help me out.

I’m also working with more area restaurants to bring compost to the many compost plots in Milwaukee (i.e. the nice plot behind Amaranth Bakery). If you’re a restaurant with food refuse, get a hold of me. I’m looking into purchasing a truck right now and aiming to establish more alliances between restaurants and urban farmers.

I’ll be cooking and selling my food at Green Festival ‘07 in Chicago through the Chicago Diner, The Oldest Vegetarian eatery in the midwest (MEAT FREE SINCE ‘83!).
